SIR JOHN MONASH’S CRITICISMS.
ENDORSED BY SIR GEORGE FULLER.,-
FEDERAL MINISTER’S REPLY.
Sydney, Nov. 13.
Is is unofficially stated that Sir George Fuller has received H despatch form Europe containing startling facts proving the necessity of Australia securing a population adequate for defence.
Commenting on Sir John Monash’s speech, Sir George Fuller sail he agreed with every w’ord. The public must take the message to heart. Mr Bowden, replying to Sir John Monash, admitted that Australian defence was not all it should be and added that it was now oa a better footing than it had been since the war. He contended that the air force was not a sham. It was not as big as it should be, but that was because there was not suiTunent money for it.
He concluded by saying that in addition to the money proovided for defence this year the Government has a suspense fund for £2,500, to be used for defence if the decisions of the Imperial Conference render :t necessary. So far no advice as to the decisions of the conference on Empire defence had been received.
