Father Terrien is returning to Suva after a brief health trip to Australia to take up mission work in Taviuni. Father Terrien was ordained thirty years ago by Archbishop Redwood, at Napier, and left th© Al arista’ College there fifteen years later. He went rrom Auckland to Fiji in 1893, to take up mission work, and he has been there ever since.

Mr Robert Thomas Gibbett. who ha<: been on tho staff of the New Zealand Trawling Company during the last seven years, died at his home, Breakwatei read, Napier, on Sunday, aged 55 years. He came to Napier from the Old Conn try, having resided at Grimsby. H< leaves a widow and a nephew (Air H. E. Brusey).

Air Bartholomew O’Rourke, an old am highly respected resident of Napier diod at his home, Station street, las. evening at the age of 79 years. Al. O’Rourke, who was born m Ireland, came to Napier about fiftj years ag" and set up a carrying business, in wind he was joined by his sons. A familiar figure in the Native Lands Court, Airs Roka Hariata Hopere. died on November 10, aged 65 years Mrs Hopere was th© widow of the late Rev Peta Tarawhiti. She was a chief tainess of the Ngatiwhauwhaki tribe oi Waikato Afaoris. In t.he Native Lam Court Airs Hopere conducted her with great ability. She is survived bj one son and + wo daughters, also 1: grandchildren.

Mr. A. O. Paterson. Transvaal University College. Pretoria, has been ap pointed professor of classics at Auckland. succeeding Professor Dettmann. Ther© were 12 applicants. Air. Paterson is 48. He obtained the B.A. degree at Edinburgh and Oxford. He has been in Africa sine© 1903. Subsequently h© was appointed professor o! Latin at Pretoria and successively registrar and rector, resigning the latter last year.

Dr. A. B. Fitt has been appointed to th© newly established chair of education at the Auckland University. There were 21 applicants from Australia. Africa, Britain, and Canada. Dr. Fitt. who was vice-president of the Auckland Training College, is a prominent authority on mental psychology and mental philosophy. He is Al. A. New Zealand and Ph.’D. Leipzig. He has held positions in New Zealand. Africa, and Alolbourne.

The Hon. J. G. Coates and party, including the heads of the Public AVorks and Railway Departments, arrived at Blenheim last night via the new arterial road being constructed between Marlborough and the AVest Coast. Th© ministerial party traversed the whole rout© by motor except six miles from th© AVash to th© Branch. To-day th© party journey over the South Island main trunk to AVheranui and thence by car to Clarence river. They return to AVellington to-morrow.
