WELLINGTON MARKET GARDENERS.
MARKETING THEIR OWN PRODUCE. (From our correspondent). Wellington, Nov- 6. A sale of vegetables at the old Te Aro railway station yesterday recalls the fact that some six months or more ago the vegetable growers of the Hutt valley and the west coast adjacent to Wellington feft oufi with the sales firms of Blair and Allen streets over certain new conditions involving expense which the market gardeners did not think justifiable. This, however, was said to be the culmination of a long period of dissatisfaction with tlm handling of their produce. It resulted in boycott of several firms, and the growers made arrangements for another firm to handle their produce pending the formation of a new marketing organisation. A company entitled Market Gardeners, Ltd., was formed, consisting of growers all over the Huft valley and as far north a® Levin on the other coast. Premises were secured in the old Te Aro railway station, and business was commenced yesterday morning, when a splendid lot of cabbage, cauliflowers, rhubarb, turnips, spring onions, etc., was sold at good prices.
