MISS AMY CASTLES. “A family of voices” might be the phrase applied to Miss Amy Castles and her singing sisters and brother. Miss Amy herself has become one oi the most celebrated of English-speakinp prima donnas, but she has now a friend ly competitor in her younger sistei Eileen, who has scored almost equal!} wonderful successes in opera in the United States, and quite recently in Australia. Both are loying everj moment of their present visit to then own land, but the wider musical work is calling them. Before they leave they are affording their compatriots a unique opportunity of hearing then, on the one series of programmes. It it only in London, New York and tb< greater European capitals that the chance of listening to two such famous artists on the one night is given t< music-lovers. At their concert in the Municipal Theatre on Friday next thej will have the assistance of Mr. Chas. Tuckwell, a fine pianist, whoso brilliant 1 work has made him a prime favourite, and Mr. Albert Torzillo, who. as sole harpist, has no rival in Australia. Hit harp has a romantic history. It was rescued from its hiding place in a French cellar during the war, where it, had been taken to escape the chance oi its destruction by one of the shells from the German “Big Bertha.” Mr Torzillo’s own harp had been capturei by the enemy, and the A.1.F., grate ful for the pleasure he.had given then on many occasions, bought this instru ment for him for 3000 francs. On ii he played at the memorable thanks giving service in Amiens Cathedral 01 the Sunday. following the singing oi the armistice. . The box plan is a Riddell’s. Concerts will be given a Napier on Tuesday and Wednesday 31st July and Ist August.
