ORIENT LINE'S NEW SHIPS

SECOND CLASS TO BE ABOLISH ED Tho Orient Lino announces that its two new 20,000-ton oil-burning liners, now under construction by Messrs John Brown at Clydebank and Messrs Vickers at Barrow will be designed to carry about 600 passengers in the first class and 1200 passengers in the third class. The vessels will thus carry passengers in two classes only. The Ormonde, at present the largest vessel in the fleet, is now at Clydebank being converted into an oil-burning vessel, and having her passenger accommodation replanned for fiust and third class passengers only. Already the Orient Company has three vessels—-ex-German s’wins acquired after the war—fitted solely for two classes of passengers. The Orient Line also announces considerable reductions in the firs>b class fares to Australia, consequent on the abolition of second class accommodation in some of the steamers. Saloon fares to Australia by the additional sailings range from £92. and the minimum single fare first-class by the mail .steamers carrying only first- and third class passengers shows a reduction of £l6, with a wider range of fares. Return fares bv the- sanno ships are reduced by ' £2B. For the steamers continuing to carry both both first and second class | passengers there is a reduction in the minimum rat© first class, while all second class rates are reduced by £4 single ! and £7 return. The new rates are to 1 come into force on August 1.
