INCREASED POWER.
ADDITIONAL PLANT FOR NAPIER. BRITISH TENDER ACCEPTED. To cope with the increased demands for power, the Napier Borough Council has accepted the tender of £12,325 of the English Electric Company for a 600 h.p. Fullagar Diesel engine and a 400 k.w. A.C. generator and exciter set. Provided the fee is not greater than one per cent on the f.o.b. value of the engine, an inspecting engineer will be appointed to examine the plant during construction and to witness the tests on the combined unit. The Council’s consulting engineers are to be instructed to obtain the approximate cost of transformers required for the A.C. area covering two firms at the Port, including cost of the substation.
For the Diesel engine, seven of tho twelve tenders received were from British firms, one from an Italian firm and one from a Swiss firm. The highest British tender was £15.273. and the Inwest £9450: the Italian Quotation was £12.425 and the Swiss £12.860. The accepted tender was £10.214.
For the A C. generator and exciter set 20 separate tenders were received. Of these fifteen were British two Arne, rican. twn Swedish and one Swiss. The highest 'British tender wns £2975 and flm lowest £lO5O. Th*' American tenders were £2502 £2217. the Swedish WOO 1.-ys and £2720 15s and the Swiss £2060 10s (including *'**etion>. The tender accepted was £2lll 4s.
