MONTHLY REPORT.
lhe director of the Hastings Technical High School (Mr. W. A. G. Penliiigtoni reported as follows U, tbe Education Board to-dav tor the montb of Apid;—
Attendance. —The average roll number during April was 179.5, and the average attendance 163.2 or 91 per’ cent. Thff attendance has suffered in consequence of prevalent colds. Twb new pupils were admitted, and five tett to take up employment. Sports.—On April 5 the annual steeplechase was held over a course a b° ut l Hdles. the winner beuig I’. Gwyn. Tho football season opened on April 12 with an inter-house tournament. The school has a team in the fourth grade Saturday competition. The three matches played to date resulted in a win. a draw and a defeat. On April 7 the girls’ tennis team visited Napier and defeated Hukatere School by six games to three Hie girls are now playing baaketbali. Dancing L'iass.—-For the convenience oi pupils wishing to learn dancing a class lor g\ris is held after school on Tuesday afternoon during the time devoted to games. Tfi© class at present numbers twelve.
Manual Training.—The cookery for boys taking the agricultural course In the centre of considerable interest. The instructress reports that the boys compare very favourably with her giri pupils as regards their keenness and the quality of their products. Tho secretary of the Board reported that the attendance and roll number of the various classes' at school were as follow:—
