WAIPUKURAU.

(Own correspondent). There will be a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Waipukurau on today. The Licensing Committee will meet on the same day. i. The Waipukurau Tennis Club s third grade team in the Neal and Close Cup competition defeated Waipawa py IVe games and 11 sets to 78 games 5 sets. Rinks skipped by D’Anvers, Muncaster, Moore, and Hall are leading in the rinks competition conducted by the Waipukurau Bowling Club. A company registered on Monday has been formed to build a theatre m Waipukurau. The provisional directors are Sir George Hunter and Messrs Paul Hunter, H. R. Peacock, R. M. Scott, J. D. Todd. P. F. Wall and T. E. Whelch. The capital is £lO,OOO. The Borough Council has a scheme for a municipal theatre in hand, and is preparing to have a poll of ratepayers taken on the Question. The general opinion is that there is no room in Waipukurau for two large theatres and developments are awaited with interest. It is quite likely that one of the proposals will be dropped. The Borough Council was expected to discuss the matter at Monday’s meeting, but said not a word about it. At the statutory meeting of the Waipukurau Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., Messrs P. Hunter, A. F. Cook, D. M. Milne. Clive Nelson, E. Coles, and D. Eddy were elected directors. At the annual meeting of St. Mary’s Ladies’ Guild Mrs Stace was elected president, Mrs Wettenhall secretary, and Mrs Hall treasurer. It was suggested that a chrysanthemum show and carnival be held, the proceeds to go to the lighting of the church, hall and vicarage. Messrs John Chambers and Sons’ workmen commenced the work of fitting up the gas producers »t the power house yesterday. Mr. J. A. Lloyd, conductor of the Waipukurau Band, who is at New Plymouth for the band conUtt, is expected home this week.

Mr. Mctlvride, M.P. for Napier, was in Waipukurau yesterday. At the request of a number of friends he has consented to give an address next Tuesday.
