M.C.C. v. SOUTH AFRICA. THIRD TEST MATCH. IBy Cable.—Preu AjMooiaUt*n.—CovyrightJ (Received 20, 11.50 a.m.) Capetown, Jan. 19. In the test match at Durban, England. in the first innings, made 428. South Africa, in the first innings, ha/e lost no wickets for 70 runs.

The weather was sunny and hot and the attendance 4000. Play was astonishingly slow as the result of a good length, varied bowling and fine ground fielding. An hour and a half’s play only added 42. At one time there were six consecutive maidens. Mead was again missed. After lunch England lost five wickets for 130, in spite of missed catches. Mann being missed twice. Mead took over six hours to compile his score, which was made mostly round the leg and the off. Mann batted three hours and was vigorous. Except for bad catching, the South African fielding was splendid, fast and accurate. South Africa opened keenly, strokes being made all round the wicket, when failing light ended the play.
