The Plunket Shield match Auckland v. Otago was continued to-day in fine weather, with the wicket and outfield in excellent condition. Otago’s first innings realised 278. Cecil Alloo smartly knocked up 55. with strokes all round the wicket, and his brother Arthur made 54, which, although the runs took longer to be compiled, was the result of good cricket. The second round of the competitions opened on Saturday. HASTINGS v. WHAKATU. Beside# being a competition event, this game was also a challenge match, for the Junior Cup, Hastings having challenged Whakatu (holders).
