IRISH RAILWAYS.

A GOVERNMENT ACQUISITION. (Received 5. 9.35 a.m.) London. Jan. 4. The Dublin Government is taking over the Great Southern and Western Railway, making good the difference between the receipts and expenses. The cost to the taxpayer is approximately £12,000 weekly. The Government recommends the three other companies, which are sounder financially, te come to a speedy agreement with unions. The Government is considering the position of the smaller companies. If they are unable to carry on themselves they will be taken over and restricted services will be run.
