TAKAPAU.
Own correspondent)
Mr. J. Caughley has been appointed a trustee of the Takapau Soldiers’ Memorial site vice Mr W. R. McLeod, who has resigned. Jt has been decided to erect ornamental gates and a flag pok* on the memorial site. Polling day passed off quietly at Takapau. There was a record poll, considerably iover lour hundred elee-' tors recording their votes. Results were announced twenty minutes after the close of the poll. Sir George Hunter had a large majority in Takapnu, and he is once more to he congratulated in successfully defending and holding the Waipawa seat. Mr. F. Andrews, postmaster, with his staff, macle excellent arrangements tor making the returns available to the public as they came in. Three large hoards with the candidates' names and numbers of votes recorded tor each were erected at the front of the Post Office and the results of th« various elections, many of them more or less unexpected proved interesting enough to hold a large, good-humour-ed crowd until after midnight.
Tile enterprise of Mr. Andrews and the amount of trouble lie went to in making the results public, it goes without saying, were much appreciated.
