AUSTRALIAN’S SUCCESSFUL DASH.

London, DeDeember 5. Eric Martin, an Australian engineer, while being taken from Salisbury to Winchester to await his trial on a charge of stealing a motor car, escaped from the police and dashed along the platform of Winchester station. He jumped the railway lines, though a pair of handcuffs was dangling from his left wrist. A warder and a spectator were close on ins heels, but Martin outran both and escaped without leaving a trace.—(A. and N.Z.)
