f MAY BEATS DEMSKY. Auckland, Nov. 27. The professional lightweight boxing contest of 15 rounds for a purse of £175, between H. May (Auckland) and P. Demsky (Queensland), was won on points by May after a good contest. DEMPSEY’S ENGAGEMENTS. New York, Now. 27. A Chicago message states that Dempsey has announced that he has accepted the offer of Al. W'oods, a New York theatrical manager, for a mixed bout with Strangler Lewis, the 'wrestler, and fights with two boxers not yet named. It is understood he will receive 1.000,000 dollars for the three bouts. Harry Wills, Willard or possibly Beckett are considered for the other matches. The character of the contest with Lewis is not explained, but it is believed it would Attract a sporting interest since the recent controversy around which is the better means of defence, boxing or .wrestling. Kearns indicated that the match with Lewis would take place Mithin three months.
