CITIZENS’ BAND CONCERT.

The programme for the sacred recital by the band (assisted by Mr J). Crooks) at Queen’s Square, Sunday, Ist October, at 2.45 p.m. (weather permitting) is as follows:—“March, “Lc Roi” this inarch is founded on a phrase from the Hungarian inarch by Berloiz); overture, “Si J’Etais Koi” (Adolphe Acam); selection, •‘Valkyrie’’ (Wagner) (this selection opens with the “Sword Theme’’ which is followed by the final to Act 2. It is truly great music which every citizen should hear); song, “Mv Task,’’ with band accompaniment, * Mr I). Crooks; two sacred pieces presented to the band by Mr R. W. Jones. 1, The Gloria; 2, Church Call (“The Bonny Christchurch Bells’’). The former is a delightful Sunday March arranged from Handel’s 12th Mass. The latter is an old favourite with the leading bands in the army, usually played at church parades. The arrangements constitute a most pleasing imitation of the old and renowed Christchurch peel of bells introducing the most pleasing bell effects; fantasia, “Souvenir de Russe’’ (Rimmer) (a composition based on the' emotions of the Russian people); inarch “The British Bransman and Contest Field’’ (this march is dedicated to the Bandsmen’s weekly journal bearing the title of the march); God Save the King.
