GENERAL ELECTIONS.

MR. ISITT VOTES REFORM. UNLESS THE IMPOSSIBLE HAPPENS. (Special to “Tribune.”) Christchurch, Sept. 28. An undertaking has oeen given by Mr. Isitt (Christchurch North) that he will vote to keep the Reform party in office unless the Liberal party has a majority over any combination of parties in the House. “This matter has been discussed as far back as last January,” said Mr. G. E. Franklin who took the lead in the negotiations. Mr. Isitt has said and reiterated that he would never use his vote in the House to place a coalition of Liberals and Labour in office. The most effective means of preventing a Labour representative capturing the Christchurch North seat was to avoid a triangular contest.” There, are sufficient Reformers in Christchurch North to make victory certain if the vote is solid. Labour naturally will not appreciate a Rcform-lsitt pact as such combination reduces Mr. Archer’s chances substantially. PETRIE OPPOSES YOUNG. Te Awamutu, Sept. 28. Mr J. Petrie, until recently a member of the Waipa “Post” literary staff and formerly editor of the Greymouth “Star.” has been selected the official j Liberal candidate for Waikato. WOMAN TO CONTEST AVON SEAT. Christchurch, Sept. 26. Mrs H. F. Herbert, a well known social worker, has- consented to contest ; the Avon seat nt the general election I as an Independent.
