DRUC ADDICTION TREBLED IN NEW YORK. “Cases of drug addiction treble in New York, according to the figures of the Department of Public Welfare, while alcoholism is little, if at all, re duced,” says the “New York World” in a leading article. “Millions of dollars are eaten up in ineffectual enforcement and millions in the storage of confiscated liquor.” These are some of the results of a prohibition, which is futile and unnatural, while yet being an enormous expense to the country in money and wasted lives.
