SUDDEN DEATH.
The Hastings police were informed ♦ his morning that Frederick Alfred Culliford, aged 67 and a widower with no children, was found dead m his bed at a house in Eastbourne street, near the rear of the Municipal powerhouse, at which he boarded. It appears that the man. who had been reading in the library in the evening, retired to rest last night at 9.15 apparently all right but at G o clock this morninc his landlady heard him groaning She did n<rr attach any importance to it. but on going into his room with a cup of tea at 7 a m., she found him dead. Deceased was employed as a slaughterman at Paki Pa'ki, and as far as can be learned he had no relatives in this district. An inquest will be held to-morrow Deceased, who came to N.Z. from Australia some six years ago was prominent as a moderate man in the recent freezers workers’ disputes. He has relatives in Christ church.
