LOSS BY STRIKES.

WAGES AND OUTPUT. NEW SOUTH WALES LEADS. According to figures issued by the Commonwealth Statistician, 116,985 working days and £117,526 in wages were lost in New South Wales during the first quarter of the present year owing to strikes and lockouts. In tne second quarter 94,045 days and £95,283 were lost from the same causes. The figures for the Commonwealth total tor the first quarter 145,402 days and £140,564 in wages, and for the second I quarter 113,139 days and £110,056 in ’ wages. By far the greatest, number of disputes, the Commonwealth Statistician states, occurred in the coalmining industry, which in a large measure accounts for the unfavourable position occupied by New South Wales in the matter of the frequency of industrial trouble.
