Mr H. Beauchamp (Wellington) is returning to N.Z. by the Narkunda, whfch left London on September 15th. Mr Joseph Phillips has been appointed chairman of the newly-elected Havelock North Town Board. Mrs Muriwai Mutu Morrison has consented to contest the Southern Maori electorate at the general election. Mr S. Rhodes, Government apiarist at Tauranga Experimental Farm, has been appointed apiary inspector for Dunedin. Clerks of Magistrate’s Courts have been appointed as follow:—Messrs J. L. Crowther (Rotorua), James Miller (Hamilton), Frank Mitchell (Nelson) and Henry Morgan (Wanganui.) The engagement is announced of Miss Betty McMillan, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Gibson McMillan, Burwood Crescent, Remuera, Auckland, to Mr John 11. Salmon, S.M., of Thames. The engagement is announced of Misk Ellen AL. Blake, eldest daughter of Mr E. Blake, of Bulls, to Air Claude AlcGrail, sixth sou of Air and ALrs James McGrail, of Okoia, Wanganui. A London cable announces the death of Sir Julian Stafford Corbett, Kt., LL.M., F.S.A., Barrister-at-law, and director of the Historical Section of the Committee of Imperial Defence. He was born in 1854. The engagement is announced of Aliss Betty Kinibell, daughter of Air and Airs F. G. Kinibell, of Seatoun, to Air Frank Stephenson, son of Dr. and Airs Stephenson, St. Clair, Dunedin. Signatures are being sought in Wellington East for a petition asking Mrs A. Ale Vicar to accept nomination as an Independent candidate for that electorate. Airs McVicur if> a member of the Wellington City Council and the Hospital Board. Air and Airs E. E. Bott (Waipawa) are in England primarily for pleasure but the former is also including visits to factory centres, says a London correspondent. The return passage to TTew Zealand has been booked by the Tainui at the end of September. Auckland exchanges announce the death, aged 65, of Air A] „,,,r Carrick, for many years a prominent member of the Auckland Stock Exchange. In his earlier days the deceased gentleman was in the service of the Bank of New Ze? and, and was for a time stationed .. Napier. A London correspondent, under date August 7th, says that Aliss K. Hood (Napier), who arrived from New Zealand recently, has left for the Rhine to stay with her uncle and aunt, Capfain and Airs J. E. Patterson (Wellington). The former is attached to the Rhino High Commissioner. Aliss E. AL Baber, ALA V is sailing from London for New Zealand at the end of November, and so will arrive in time for the beginning of the new school year. Y’hile in England Aliss Baber has visited ninny schools for the purpose of investigating freer methods of education. In addition she has been examining the designs of new school buildings in view of the contemplated erection of the Afarsden Diocesan School of Karori.
