BANKRUPT MISSING.

Wellington, Sept. 21. The public examination of Harold Richard Beard, auctioneer and restaurant proprietor, was fixed for this morning in the bankruptcy court before Mr. Justice Salmond, but the debtor failed to answer his name. Mr Kennedy, for the Official Assignee, said Peard had given an address in Auckland. Personal service could not be effected, and though the notice was sent by registered post it is not likely to have reached him in time for the present sitting. Peard had apparently come to Wellington prior to the posting of the notice. He suggested fixing his examination at a distant date. Mr. Goldsbrough, one of the largest creditors, told the court he had reason to believe Peard had left New Zealand, or was in hiding. Nothing had been seen of him for a considerable time, though exhaustive enquiries had been made. He suggested that an order be made to bring him before the court as an absconding debtor. His Honour said he would consider that matter if put before him in chambers, supported by affidavits. Tn the meantime he adjourned the case for a month.
