HAVELOCK NORTH.

A meeting, organised by the Hawke’s Bay fruitgrowers’ Association (inc.) was held in the Foresters Hall, last night. Mr. A. M. Robertson occupied the chair. Mr. 1. W • Attwood, president and managing director of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, met a large number of fruitgrowers of the district, and gave a most interesting and instructive address dealing with the fire blight legislation and the work of the federation. '1 he legislation asked lor was the declaring of all hawthorn to be a noxious weed in affected areas. This would give the necessary powjr to have the hawthorn destroyed, as the plant was found to be a disease carrier. He thought the bill was likely to become law. Dealing with the Federation he reminded his audience that it was up to them to support the Federation to the utmost. Their idea was to amalgamate all the Fruitgrowers’ Associations throughout the Dominion. If this was done they could purchase their orchard requirements wholesale, entailing a big saving to individual growers. At the conclusion of the address Mr. J. H. Joil moved a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker, which was carried with applause.
