EDUCATION CLERK PLEADS GUILTY. Wellington, Sept. 21. Another ease of embezzlement of funds of the Education Department lias l>een before the court. James Charles McGill Nutt, arrested in Sydney. was charged with stealing various sums amounting to £272. Last year he was clerk in the accounts section of the special schools branch, and it was his duty to attend to all banking accounts and had to withdraw or pay in money as the ease might be. Accused told the police the temptation had come on him when hard-pressed to provide a home for his Wife and family, and it was more than he could withstand. He pleaded guilty and was com. mitted for sentence.
