WAIPUKURAU BOROUGH AFFAIRS.
(Own correspondent). The fortnightly meeting of the Wai- - pukurau Borough Council was held in 1 the Council Chambers last night, the 1 Mayor presiding. There were also , present Crs J. Atkins, T. Staines, t E. H. Leigh, R. McLean and L. G. - Harker. An apology for absence was read i from Cr. J. Warren, wM is absent - from the district. s The Hon. Downie Stewart Minister - of Internal Affairs, wrote forwarding i copy of the Local Bodies’ Loan* 1 Amendment Act. —Received. Mr. John Gardiner wrote accepting 1 the position of manager and inspector ’ to the borough.—Received. r The Conservator of Forests wrote - with reference to tree planting.—Rer ceived. L The clerk of the Dannevirke County ? Council wrote with reference to the - holding of a conference regarding the ? appointment of a sanitary inspector. - —The Dannevirke Council is to he informed that the council is making its 3 own arrangements regarding the mat 1 ter. The Masterton Chamber of Com--1 merce wrote regarding representation ' upon a deputation to the Prime Min- ■ ister with reference to railway devia- - tion over the Rimutaka range.—The ‘ Mayor stated that ho had wired en- > dorsing the scheme The Department of Health wrote ’ forwarding a circular containing information that would be effective in dealing with the fly nuisance.—Received. The secretary of the Provincial Committee of the proposed Central H.B. Power Board, wrote reouesting a loan 'f £6 for incidental expenses.— Granted. The isecretrary of the Sir Arthur Pearson Fund (Mr. G. W. Duncan) wrote asking for a rebate of rent on thn Town Hall for the lecture and dance.—Granted on the motion of Cr. Atkins and seconded by Cr. McLean. Mr. F. C. Haycock wrote requesting the use of Russell Park hockey ground for the of running n seven-a-side hockey tournament on O toiler 7th.—Granted. The Mavor mentioned that it was not necessary to prepare by-laws m connection with the electric lighting scheme which is shortly to be Instituted in the borough. Messrs Hay and Vickerman wrote offering to draft by-laws at a cost of £lO. The offer was accepted. Messrs Hay and Vickerman wrote giving information regarding gas plant and reticulation service plant ordered on behalf of the borough.—Received. Mr H. F. Chandler wrote drawing attention to a portion of the Town Hall cloak room being boarded up.— Referred to the Works Committee. Accounts amounting to £5019 2s Id wore passed for payment. The clerk (Mr. E. G. Fowler) remarked that this was the biggest pay sheet yet submitted to the council-
