Reporting on Carlyle street, he overseer stated that this called for the best class of road being constructed, owing to the heavy traffic and it being continually wet m winter with no discharge for water. The road was 3011. wide, but only half this was available owing to the shape of the road. He reported the following estimates for reconstructing the roads:—Union asphalt £9O per chain, or on a larger scale £96 or £102; concrete. £lO9 per chain; rolled macadam, £43 per chain; tarring (temporary measure), £25 per chain. The matter was considered in committee. after which.it was decided to construct the street in concrete from Faraday street to Miller street. The tender of T. J.
