GOLF.

H.B. CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Hawke’s Bav golf championships and the Napier Club’s annual tournament opened to-day at 8.30 a.m. on the Waiohiki links. There are a large number of entries, including over 40 outside competitors, representing clubs from Gisborne. Palmerston N., Feilding, New Plymouth Dannevirke, Waipawa. Waipukurau. Wellington, Auckland, and elsewhere. At present the course is in perfect order, the heavy rains which fell last week giving the ground tliat elasticity which is conducive to good golf. The greens are in excellent order and the fairways are trim and true. Provided that good *weatliMr attends this meeting some excellent and closely contested games may be expected.
