GLOAMING’S WIN.

PRESS COMMENT. (Received 18. 11.30 a.in.) Sydney. September 18. The “Herald” says: No excuse can be found for Beauford, who was beaten —and well beaten—on the day. i'he better horse won. Enthusiasts are are now looking forward to the meeting of Gloaming and Beauford on Derby Day. The “Telegraph” says: Beauford secured a four lengths’ break, but Gloaming was at Ins rival’s girth at the Leger stand, and passed him in a few more strides, and could have won by four lengths had his rider desired. When Gloaming went down no excuses wpre offered. On behalf of Beauford one hears many. Good spprtsmen will not detract from the splendour of the victory. • Young said he had Gloaming on the rails the first furlong, and found the going heavy, so he took him wide. Then fie took the bit in his mouth and made up ground in such a manner that he knew he had the race won three furlongs from home. Wopd says lie cannot understand it. It was just one of those happenings the man on top cannot explain.—(A. and N.Z.)
