Referring to what is said elsewhere in this issue with regard to the opportunity which the Government is giving of converting 4f per cent, tax-free war loan stock into 5J per cent, tax-bearing stock, we note that one the Wellington dailies speaks of “must of the debentures” coming within the scope of the scheme as “lalimg due in 1928.” it will be as well, therefore, for any warloan debenture-holders who have thought of taking advantage of the option to ascertain definitely whether their securities come within its operation. A man named George Foster was admitted to the Napier Hospital on Wednesday night suffering from injuries to the tnigh and kidneys, boater and others were engaged in placing roofing iron on the Harbour Board engine shed on Breakwater road and had placed the ladder across the line. The Harbour Board engine, drawing a rake of trucks, came irom the breakwater and the engine dislodged the ladder, causing Foster to tall into one of the trucks and sustain the injuries mentioned. He was attended by Dr. Graham-Robertson, who ordered his removal to the hospital. . V' It is a long time since such a large crowd of people attended an auction sale of any description as were present at the Tourist Alotor Company's garage on Wednesday, the 13th met., when Messrs. Gill Bros., on behalf of the insurance conipany, put up to the highest bidder the salvage stock, comprising cars, motor cycles, and hum dreds of sundry lines. The sale was carried on until Thursday midday, when the auctioneers closed the sale, finding it impossible to get through all the lines, as they had to conduct another sale the same afternoon. The Tourist Motor Co., Ltd., have taken over the balance of the stock, and (versons were unable to attend the sala can inspect the stock at the <-ompanys garage up till Saturday next, the 23rd inst. There are a lot of good lines to be sold at auction prices, and all those interested would he well advised to look over the goods while the opportunity offers.
