JOCKEY GOLDFINCH'S LICENSE.

WORTHY OF ANOTHER CHANCE. Wanganui, September 15. The appeal by Henry Ernest Goldfinch against the decision of the Licensing Committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference in not granting his application for a jockey’s license for 1922-23, was heard by Messrs. Perrett, Vallance, and Goodbehere. the judgment delivered being: “We have carefully considered the appeal by Goldfinch against the refusal of the Licensing Committee of the Racing Conference to grant his application for a jockey’s license for the current racing year, and have heard the evidence by Goldfinch supporting the We are of opinion that the action of the Licensing Committee is in order in this respect. Goldfinch openly admitted to us that he had been in the habit of associating with undesirable persoiii», and that he had been guilty of breach of part of Rule 21 of the rules of racing, which reads: ‘No jockey shall give information respecting a trial or regarding any horse he may be engaged to ride in any race, or work, to any person other than the owner or trainer ot the horse.’ Goldfinch does not appear to have realised the seriousness oi his actions. His private life was clean, and in view of this fact, and that he openly admitted his guilt to us, we are of the opinion that he should be given another chance. Therefore. we recommend that he be granted 1 a conditional jockey’s license, dating from January 1 next.”
