UNREST IN MESOPOTAMIA.
TRIBAL GATHERINGS DISPERSED AMERICAN MISSIONARY MURDERED! (Received 15. 11.35 a.m.) Delhi, September 14. Details of the Mesopotamia trouble have arrived, modifying the previous information. Apparently the behaviour of Kurdish levies is unsatisfactory, but this was not the cause of the withdrawal. which is ascribed to the strength of a tribal contingent the Lurks succeeded in raising. Ihe evacuation of officials by aeroplane was carried out front Suiaitnani. Only a number of British officials were so removed—fifteen out of a total of sixty-five, the remainder being recruited from non-Moliammedan personnel. Turkish forces are now reported to have withdrawn to Rowanduz and a tribal gathering dispersed. It is reported that the Rev. Gates, of the American Maratha Mission, was murdered at Bijapur on the evening of the 6th. The police arrested a Mohammedan.—(A. and N.Z.)
