WAIPUKURAU.
(Own Correspondent.) Several very heavy -showers of rain fell here to-day, Monday, the 11th inst., which will have a very beneficial effect in the district. In the Magistrate’s Court, John Foster was charged with a breach of tho by-laws in employing an unlicensed driver. The defence was that the defendant was a mail contractor, and on this occasion gave instructions to his driver not to apply for hire. The mag istrato held the defence sound and dismissed the information. > St. Mary’s choir made a presentation yesterday to Mr P. L. Burke of the local P.O. staff, who has been transferred to Ormondville. The presentation, which was made by Mr Saunders, in the absence of Rev. Mr Stace, consisted of a handsomely bound prayer book and hymn book combined. Mr Saunders spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Burke’s many good qualifications, especially in connection with bis work as a member of tho choir. Mr Burke suitably responded. Mr W. A. Chambers, builder and contractor, leaves "Waipukurau by the mail train on Tuesday, the 12th Jnst., for Wellington on business matters.
It is highly probable in the near fu ture that Waipukurau will have a child ren’s paddling pool installed.
