WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL.

(Own correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held on Monday, 11th September. Present - Crs L. McKay (chair). J. Holden, Paton. Glenny. Cook, Kerr and Robottom. CORRESPONDENCE. From Minister of Public Health, re hospital levy.—Received. J. M. Wallace re arrears of rates.— Held over. N.Z. Counties’ Association, re precis of meeting.—Received. Chairman Pearson Memorial Fund, asking for contribution.—On the motion of the chairman and Cr. Cook £25 was voted. Department Lands and Survey re alterations to riding boundaries and enclosing plans, etc., for inspection and confirmation.—Received James Caldwell complaming of Springhill road.—Left in hands of engineer to deal with. T. W. Sharp, asking permission to put in culvert off College road.—Engineer to deal with the matter. T. J. Keehan re post broken by telephone pole.—Engineer to arrange matters with writer. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted: Argyll-Onepu road and Brow bridge approaches, Adrian Bros, at 4s 6d a yard; Mill road, Onga, .300 yards at 3s Bd, and 380 yards at 3s 9d. Adrian Bros; Fairfield. 500 yards at 3s 2d, R. B. Price; Black’s rortd, R. B. Price at 5s 2d yard; Tikokino, 680 yards at 3s 6d, Adrian Bro*.

OVERSEER’S REPORT. Included in the report of the work done for the month and recommendations were the following:— Hampden Riding.—Metal raked in on Matheson’s road. The grader has been over the roads and 250 yards of metal put on around Tikokino-Ruatani-wha Riding. As the road irom Mate Bridge to Hamilton’s is very rough I propose to repair during September. Onga Riding.— 3’be Springhill metal contract is completed and repairs are being effected to Caldwell’s road. Culvert has l>een put on on Pettit’s Valley road and also metalling. Three hundred yards of metal have been crushed at Hinerua and 50 yards put on the road. Clinton Riding.—Five hundred yards is required to complete Waldie’s road and suggest this bo done with crushed metal when trucks are available. Takapau Riding.—Good progress has been made with metalling of Waipuku-rau-Takapau road and the work should be completed this week. Patching to bridges and cleaning water tables has been done. A fair sample of metal is to be had in. Chadfield’s property and to repair the roads in this block will require. 4000 yards at a cost of £l2OO The tender of N. Terran (£110) for filling and metalling approaches to Brow bridge has been accepted and the contractor has completed the bridge.

GENERAL. On the motion of Cr. Glenny an estimate is to be prepared of putting the roads defined as “main” in proper order. . It was decided to give notice to those motor lorrv owners who have not taken out a license that if not effect-*! by October Ist proceedings will be taken. The chairman stated that the matter dealt with at the N.Z. Caunt’Os’ Conference was the privilege of collecting unpaid rates after a. period of two years, also exemption from awards and that an overdraft be allowed of 25 per cent of the previous year s revenUThe engineer is to report on the Papa bridge cutting and the road leading to mill at Wakarara. A return was ordered to be prepared for next meeting subscribers in arrears with their sub SC The°pay sheet, which included the quarter lew of Hospital Board of £043 amounted to £1921 16s lOd was passed for payment.
