HAVELOCK TOWN BOARD.
The nomination of candidates for the coming election is now the burning topic of the day in the village. The latest aspirant for municipal honours is Mr F. W. Berry, superintendent of the Havelock Fire Brigade, and a prominent member of the Baths Executive. Considerable pressure is being brought to bear on Messsrs H. A. Mossman and P. J. Sefton, both by members of the present board, and by Havelock residents generally. It is a pretty general opinion that the members of the*"present board, who have begun a very heavy work, that will not be brought to fruition for some years at least, should give electors an opportunity of stating whether or not they approve these men’s administration ,nnd this fact will probably send both men to lhe poll. Seen this morning. Air Sefton said that after the publicity given to his position in Saturday’s “Tribune” he felt now he could not be accused of sailing under false colours as far as the rate roll is concerned.
The following have been nominated as candidates up to this morning:—Messrs W. J. Rush, L. T. Cooper, J. Phillips, J. J. Nimon, H. B. Tennent, John Denis Heenan, H. W. Alalden. The following list of attendances of the Havelock Town Board members during the last two years of office, compiled from the “Tribune” file, might be of interest to the ratepayers. Twenty-four monthly meetings were held and Messrs E. C. Clarkson attended 21 times, Mr J. Phillips 18, Air H. A. Alossman 17, Air J. H. Joll 18, Air Cooper 18, Air P. J. Sefton 22, and Air J. J. Nimon 21. In addition there has been a large number of committee meetings not open to the press.
