MISCELLANEOUS CABLES.
In the course of evidence before the Transvaal martial law commission Colonel Beer, Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Free State, stated that during the progress of the Rand strike secret meetings were held all over the Free State and addressed by speakers from the Rand. The situation became very serious, as commandoes were projected in several places and) were only waiting the word to rise. A woman organised a commando at Bloemfontein but the Magistrate, together with General Hertzog, quashed the movement.
Mr. John Milward has arrived at. Vancouver by the Niagara from Suva via Fanning Island, en route to London to report to the board regarding the route for the duplicate Pacific cable. It is understood that it will he different to the present route, further information is not available.
