FIGHT OVER ARMY RETRENCH-

Tokio, March 26.

Following considerable confusion as a result of the Opposition’s obstructive tactics against a resolution passed by the Lower House, urging retrenchment by 40,000,000 yen in the army appropriations the Diet formally prorogued on Saturday. A resolution was passed with a proivsion requesting a reduction in the period of conscription to 16 months. The House of Peers shelved a supplementary budget of 44,500,00 yen for raising certain colleges to university rank and a, jury system bill. —(A. anil N.Z.)
