CROQUET.

WAIRERE CLUB’S TOURNAMENT. The Wairere Croquet Club commenced its second annual tournament yesterday in dull weather. Mr T. B. Bear president of the Wairere Bowling Club, welcomed the competitors and hoped that all would enjoy a week’s croquet. Ninety-seven entries have been received, and as the lawns are in first-class condition, three of them being on the bowling green, some keen games are expected. The following are the results of the first day’s play:— HANDICAP SINGLES. A Grade. Miss Blake (26) beat Mrs Rose (16). Mrs Brodie (26) beat Airs C. Thomson (13). Mrs Hogan (26) beat Mrs Bendall (5). Mrs W. Fraser (26) beat Mrs Dolbel (18). Mrs Evans (26) ,beat Mrs J. A. Fraser (18). Mrs Renouf (26) beat Mrs Thomas (10). Mrs Tiffen (26) beat Mrs Hutchinson (11).

Mrs Ball (26) beat Mrs A. Thomson (21). Mrs Belcher (26) beat Mrs Pearson (10).

HANDICAP DOUBLES. Airs Tiffen and Aliss Blake (26) beat Airs Gregory and W. Fraser (9). HANDICAP SINGLES. Aliss Lydford (26) beat Airs Jennings (23). Aliss Stevens (22) beat Aliss Finch (18).

Airs O’Meara (26) beat Mrs Ale Gregor (19). Airs Newbegin (26) beat Airs Bay liffe (11).
