H.B. FRUITGROWERS’ ASSN.

A general meeting of the H.B J 1 ruitgrowers’ Association was held at “Arataki” on Saturday last, Mr. A, M. Robertson presiding over a moderate attendance of members. The fact that a large number of fruitgrowers were busy preparing then exhibits for the forthcoming show, accounted lor the small attendance. Four new members were elected and three were nominated lor election at the next general meeting. The names ol a number of members who were unreasonably behind hand with their subscriptions, were, by a unanimous vote oi those present, or dcred to be struck off the roil of membership. Dr. Tillyard, of the Cawthron In stitute, lias supplied this association with three colonics of “Aphelinus Hall,” the parasite of the woohy spins. These colonies have been liberated in bird-proof enclosures in the orchards or Messrs to. Aiasters, J. xa. Aulne and K. H. JxiLtermaster. A further colony has been promised bj Dr. J.ulyard, and this will be liberateu m Mr. A. Ivl. Robertson s orenaru, on arrival.

The president made reference to the proposed disposal by the Government ol the “Arataki" experimental station. This station had, Im said, solved its purpose, it would* now be better in the hands or a number m settlers, than in the hands ot the Gov. eminent, if was to be noped that me Government would earmark certain monies and take over a commercial orchard in the district for experimental purposes. The H.B. Fruitgrowers' Association were not opposing Die sale oi this property, thinking that better work cuuid oo done by demonstrating on commercial lines.

Mr. T. E. Rodda, manager of the “Arataki” station, gave a report oi the experiments carried in spraying during the season. It was rather eany lor a complete report and this will be supplied at a later meeting oi the association. Mr. Rodda alterwards conducted members over the farm for the purpose of inspecting his method ot pruning, etc. A hearty vote oi thanks to Mr. and Mrs Rodda concluded a most enjoyable afternoon.
