THE SHIPBUILDING DISPUTE
FAILURE OF CONFERENCE
London, March 18.
The shipbuilding negotiations have definitely broken down and the conference delegates, who have been sitting at the Labour Ministry for several days, have dispersed, the delegates returning to their homes in the provinces.
The men’s leaders rejected a proposal for a ballot upon the employers’ offer to reduce wages 10/6 w’eekly now and a further 6s on March 29, leaving the remaining 10s in abeyance. The Amalgamated Engineering Union has distributed £200,000 in lockout pay.—(A. and N.Z.)
