COMMONWEALTH NOTES.
The Australian Glass Manufacturers, Ltd., is calling a general meeting of shareholders on January 9 to sanction the amalgamation with the Zetland Glass Bottle Works. Sydney. The new company will have a capital of £2,175,000 preference and £1,825,000 ordinary shares.
During the year 394 bankruptcy petitions were filed in Sydney, as against 344 in 1920. Applications lodged before the Fair Rents Courts in 1921 totalled 1125; 50 per cent, succeeded in obtaining reductions. Reductions of 6d to 19/6 were allowed in 278 cases and increases of 6d to 24/6 were allowed in 276 cases.
The German-Australian Steamship Company proposes to resume services to Australia immediately the embargo against German trade is removed.
Tlie Department of Navigation has issued regulations modifying the provisions of the Navigation Act. The section requiring vessels over 1500 tons to carry one to three boys is altered to vessels over 3000 tons trading exclusively on the coast. Oversea vessels aro still to carry the original number.
Queensland’s revenue for the half year was £5,256,090. against £5,456,000 in 1920; expenditure was £6,265.000. compared with £6,086.000 in 1920. The deficit is £1,009,000, against £629,000 in 1920.
The year’s bankruptcies in Sydney disclosed o deficiency between liabilities and assets of sequestrated estates of £145,443.
A Sydney cablegram reports that the sea is moderating. Arriving vessels report a rough time.
Fruit crops in New South Wales suffered severely from the storm.
