SPRINGSTON SHOOTING.
MAGISTRATE REDUCES CHARGE. Christchurch. Oct. 14. The hearing of charges of attempted murder against James Scott Main was concluded to-day. Tho Magistrate said the evidence led him to believe there was no intention to kill on the part of the accused, but to frighten and hit and thus disable. He reduced the charge from attempting murder to discharging firearms with intent to do grievous bodily harm. The accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence and was committed for trial. Bail was allowed.
