Arbitration Court

MR. McCULXOUCH DETERMINED. NOT GOING BACK ON BENCH. UNIONS MUST ELECT NEW REPRESENTATIVE. Christchurch, Oct. 15. Mr. J. A. McCullough has issued a circular letter to unions defining his position in regard to his seat op th© Arbitration Court Bench. Tb« letter states that ho has not gon* 3 back on his determination not to .sit again with the present members of th* court. He proposes to retain the pos* tion if permitted until the Christmas vacation or such earlier date as may be arranged. This would enable the deputy member to sit and the court to function and allow a candidate to be recommended for election during the vacation. He considers that it is neither honourable nor desirable for him to retain the position for any longer period than would enable trade unions to nominate a successor with whatever unanimity may be possible.
