The Rev. F. Browning has arrived at Auckland from Homo to take up duty as a priest of the Melanesian Mission. Mr. B. G. Guy has taken up duties as manager of tho Bank of New South Wales in Hamilton, in succession to Mr. P. C. Gamham.

Sir Joseph and Lady aWrd leave Southampton to-day for New York, going thence to New Zealand via San Francisco. They may return to' England early in the summer. A London cable announces the death at the age of 83 years, of the Rev. John Munro Gibson, minister* of St. John’s AVood Presbyterian Church, London, since 1880..

It is reported, says the “Manawatu Daily Times,” that Mr. G. R. Sykes, the member for Masterton, intends retiring from politics at the expiry of the present Parliament. An Oamaru Press Association message announces the death of Mr William Gardner, senior, aged 76. He came to Oamaru with his parents in the. early days of settlement, and had been actively engaged in pastoral pursuits. He was a well known breeder ef merino sheep. Mr, W. E. Caldow, the lion, secretary to the Wellington Choral Society, who will arrive in Hastings on Monday night on a business visit, will confer with tho local Choral Society in the matter of the proposed excursion of the Wellington members to Hastings. Aluch regret is expressed concerning the death of Mr. John Smith, husband of Nurse Deborah Smith, which occurred at the residence, Avenue road. Hastings, this morning, at the age of 47 years. The funeral will leave Avenue road for Hastings cemetery to-morrow (Sunday) at 4 p.m.) Mr. A. Ward, who has been manager of the Palmerston North branch of the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company for some years, has received notice of his transfer to Hamilton. He will be succeeded in Palmerston North by Mr. R. McKnight, of Christchurch, who was previously stationed in that district.

A naval wedding of much interest was celebrated at St. Aidan’s Church, Remuera, Auckland, on Wednesday evening, when Miss Catherine Lott was married to Commander Evans Thomas, of H.M.S. Chatham. The bride returned to Auckland at the close of the wai - after three years’ work in England and France, where she was attached to the American unit at the front.
