HAVELOCK BATHS.

At a meeting of the Swimming Baths Executive held recently it was decided to go on with the concrete work of the baths as soon as the excavation is completed—a matter of a week or so. The work will bo done by public tender and Messrs CHmie and Son have in hand the preparing of the necessary specifications, upon completion of which tenders will be called lor per medium of the newspapers. It was decided to withdraw £3OO lorm the P.O. Savings Bank and to deposit same in tho Bank of New Zealand, Hastings, on current account, Massrs G. Estaugh and P. J Sefton being appointed to sign cheques. The Town Clerk, Air. W. H. Complin, was appointed auditor. Splendid progress has been made with the work of excavation, thanks mainly to the generous action of Messrs Donnelly Bros, and P. McCarthy in supplying men and teams for plough and scoop work. A working “bee” is being organised for Saturday afternoon (to-morrow) when it is hoped all who can spare the time will roll up and give a hand to complete tho work of excavation.

Remarks are occasionally heard that the baths executive are asking for voluntary labour while having plenty of money in hand. The fact is that to complete the baths according to Mr. Climie’s plans will take some hundreds of pounds more than the executive have in hand, hut with voluntary labour for excavation work, the executive are confident that they can complete the main works, building and fencing. It is proposed to Continue the collecting campaign, and to continue carrying out the work as per plan as the money comes in, and the executive are convinced that when completed the baths will he not only a very useful institution but also a valuable addition to the buildings of Havelock. Tho work of construction is in the hands of a works committee consisting of Messrs J. Phillips, A. Toop, F. Berry, and H. Hatherall.
