THE PICTURE HOUSES.

MUNICIPAL. “The Rocks of Valpre” an aclapta-' tion of the widely-read novel by Ethel M. 'Doll makes its appearance at the Hastings Municipal Theatre, to-night. It is a delightful i.’omance in which an English girl and a French army officer play the leading parts. Valpre is a town on the French coast, and we are introduced to Christine Wyndham and her dog “Cinders.” Ono day Chris sprains her ankle, and the Magic Knight she has often imagined as an occupant of one of the mysterious caves, really comes to her rescue. His name is Captain de Montville, and she : learns that he is perfecting the invention of a patent gun breech-block in one ’ of the eaves. They become fast friends and one day while they are searching for “Cinders,” who w is lost, a thief copied the plans of the invention. Tho rising tide imprisoned Chris and de Montville, and they w ire forced to spend the night on the grew out of the happening, and Chris was recalled to England, The plans of the gun wj'rc sold to a foreign country ,and de. Montville was accused of treachery, and sentenced to imprisonment. Later on he escaped and reached England to find that Chris is married to a man who has befriended him. a<> Montville is broken in health and i» employed by his friend as secretary. Many complications arise out of his friendship for Chris, and he returns to France ill to the point of death. Ho is arrested, but the case is re-opened, and another man found guilty of the theft of the plans. Cowley Wright Boggy and Basil Gill take tho leading parts in the production. EVERYBODY’S. ' .Against the romantic settings of England and quaint old Brittany, Kafherine [ MacDonald, the famous American beauty, makes her Hastings debut tonight at Everybody’s Theatre, in tho role of Mrs Bailie Reynolds’ famous heronie, “The Notorious Miss Lisle.” Widely read ns a novel tho story is even more beautiful in picture form," and the . beautiful star gives a portrayal of : Gaenor Lisle with an appeal that would ; stir emotions in a marble breast. But i seldom do beauty and talent go hand in . hand, yet here is the exception, for Miss MacDonald has wonder/ql talent, with the power to arrest attertion and wring tears from the most sophisticated of hire-goers. A strong cast suppopts. The supporting items this evening in- ■ elude Bathe’s gazette, a comedy, “The ‘ Simp,” and further chapters of the sensational serial, “Tho Diamond Queen. ’ ’
