UREN FOULED. GRUELLING THREE ROUNDS. Melbourne, April 3. Tommy Uren (lOst. 4Jlb.) defeated Francis Charles (lOst. 13|1b.) on a foul in the third round at the Stadium to-night. Uren forced the pace in the opening round, severely punishing the Frenchman. Uppercuts brought blood from Charles’ nose. It was Uren’s round. Charles opened the second round strongly, but in a gruelling mill he was down as the result of an uppercut. Uren’s right eye was beginning to close, but he responded gamely, and sending two straight lefts to the Frenchman’s face had him groggy. Charles attacked at the beginning of the third round, and half Way through he swung his right hand decidedly low, aud was disqualified.
The doctor attended to Uren for several minutes, and when he left the ring there tremendous cheering.— (“Sydney Sun.”)
