Owing to the summoning of Parliament to meet on March 10th His Excel leticy the Governor-General has postponed his proposed tour of the South Island. His Excellency hopes, however, to spend the first week of March in Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Taylor, of Hastings. are staying at 44 The Mansions,” Rotorua. Sir Francis Bell (Attorney-GeneraD is visiting the South Island on matters connected with his department. Mrs H. McVay, who has been on a visit to Hastings, as the guest of her brother, Mr. J. C. Boyd, left this morning on her return to Dannevirke. The death is announced from London of Lieut.-Colonel Charles R. Crosse, C.M.G., M.V.0., aged 70 years, secretary of the National Rifle Association since 1899. Mr. L- W. Mackersey, brother of Mr. C( L. Mackersey, JefU jHastjings this morning for Rotorua, on a holiday trip, during which he will do some fishing. Lieut. Clachan, who has recently returned to the Dominion, after qualifying for his commission at Duntroon Military College, N.S. Wales, has been appointed to the command of the Hastings area, and he will shortly assume his duties here. Mr. James Christie, headmaster of Loburn school, (Canterbury), whose death took place last week, was 57 years or age. He was lor a number of years engaged in journalism, and was at one time connected with the “Wainiate Times,” “Clutha Leader,” “Otago Daily Times,” and “Bruce Herald.” Deceased once stood for the Mataura seat at a Parliamentary ©lection, but was defeated.
