MR WALTER LONG.

RESIGNING FROM ADMIRALTY. LONG AND PAINFUL ILLNESS. (Received 5. 8.40 a.m.) London. Jan. 4. The “Manchester Guardian’’ understands that the Rt Hon. Walter Long (First Lord of the Admiralty) is resigning owing to a lengthy and painful illness.

The Rt. Hon. Sir Worthington Evans (Minister of Pensions) is likely to succeed him.—(United Service).

(The Rt. Hon. Walter Long is over 66 years of age. He was first elected to Parliament for North Wuts in 1880. Since then he has represented various districts and has held several Ministerial posts. He was appointed Secretary of State for Colonies in 1916 anc became First Lord of the Admiralty in 1918. His only son Brig-Gen. Walter Long, C.M.G., D. 5.0., was killed in action.
