The third race for the America Cup was on a course oi thirty miles, a fitteen mile beat to windward and a fifteen mile run home. Tho wind was light. Tho Shamrock started at 1.0.22 p.m., and the Resolute at 1.0.41 p.m. At 1.10 p.m. both changed to Port tack and hauled towards the Jersey shore, tiie Resmute footing faster. At 1.40 p.m. the Resolute was threequar:oA> of a mile ahead, but at 1.58 p.m. she had dropped back two hundred yards. The wind was six knots. The yachts, being close in shore made a pretty thrash to windward heeling over in’ the strengthening wind, the Shamrock's flat how pounding the rolling sea. At 2.15 p.m. the Resolute was leading by a quarter of a mile, and at 2. Io p.m. by three-eighths. The wind increased to ten knots, the Reso.ute gaining slightly at every tack. The wind was seven to eight knots when the Resolute reached the mark at 3.21.21 and the Shamrock at 3.23.6. At 3.55 p.m. the Resolute was hall a mile ahead and ten miles from the At 4.15 p.m. she was three hundred vards ahead. . At 4.48 p.m. with the wind holding well, the Resolute was leading by a quarter of a mile. PASSED IN LAST HALF MILE.

At 4.55 p.m., a mile from the finish, the Shamrock had nearly caught the Resolute, and half a mile from the finish did so and crossed the line first. She crossed at 5.3.28, and the Resolute nineteen seconds later, equalling the difference in starting times and making a tie on the actual time, 4.3.0.. the Resolute winning by her time allowance of seven minutes, one second.
