THE RIDGE AREA.
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —Councillor Donovan’s statement at the recent meeting of the Council displays ignorance of borough matters. It is obvious to any one tlvit large block of land are never meant to be included in a borough area. When the petition pf severance of the Frimley Ridge and Mahora South portion of the Hastings borough was presented to Mr. S. K. McCarthy S.M., who adjudicated on the matter, that gentleman immediately granted the severance of the above named area, and stated that large blocks of land for farming and orchard purposes should not be included in borough areas. The petition for severance of the above named blocks was signed by settlers holding up to one hundred areas of land; some of the farms were three miles from the Hastings Post Office. Common sense would, suggest that those farmers could not expect any advantage for the rates they paid. Close settlement in, the healthiest portion of Hastings has made a vast difference in ten years.—l am, etc. MAHORA SOUTH.
