JOCKEYS’ DISPUTE.

CONFERENCE WITH SIR GEORGE CLIFFORD. JOCKEYS’ PROPOSALS AGREED TO Wellington, May 31. At a conference between Sir George Clifford and the jockeys a request was made for an increase of 50 per cent on losing fees and a flat rate of 5 per cent in all winning mounts and place money above £lOO.

Sir George Clifford agreed to bring the proposal before the Racing Conference and to support it. The jockeys argued in favour of increasing the minimum weight to 7.0., and making the top weight always 9.0. After a long discussion, it was agreed to debate the proposal at the Racing Conference. 6 Riders also asked that welter weights should be carried from May Ist instead of June sth as now, to August 31st. • It was agreed that clubs should not be asked to postpone starting times of races; that riders after doing their preliminaries should be allowed to return :.o the bird cage when the weather was .vet; that jockeys should have the right -o he represented! by a licensed jockey .it all enquiries; and that ail programmes must have a hurdle race or jumpers’ flat handicap and one apprentices’ race on them. The Jockeys' Association holds that the conference was not representative, but claims that some of the , matters considered had already been put forward by the Association and refused.
